The OpenFOAM® (Open Field Operation And Manipulation) CFD Toolbox can simulate anything from complex fluid flows involving chemical reactions, turbulence and heat transfer, to solid dynamics, electro-magnetics and the pricing of financial options.

The software is supplied with numerous pre-configured solvers, utilities and libraries and so can be used like any typical simulation package. However, it is open, not only in terms of source code, but also in its structure and hierarchical design, so that its solvers, utilities and libraries are fully extensible.

ICON’s team of engineers has been assembled from researchers at Imperial College in London where OpenFOAM (formerly FOAM) was originally developed and applied alongside commercial software. ICON and partners have worked in partnership on OpenFOAM and FOAM development and consultancy projects since 1999. Furthermore, the organisations draw upon a team of developers and application engineers that work together supporting OEM’s, SME’s and academic institutions worldwide.
