Open Source CFD International Conference 2011 – Another Great Success!

The 5th Open Source CFD International Conference 2011, organised by ICON, took place in Chantilly, France on the 3rd & 4th November. Delegates found out about the current best practices and state-of-the-art in Open Source CFD and associated technologies, attending two keynotes and choosing from 32 presentations, poster session, exhibition and discussion breaks.

The conference welcomed delegates to Chantilly (near Paris) to meet, listen and debate with attendees from academia and various industries including oil & gas, consumer products, automotive, motorsport, marine, process, energy, nuclear safety, industrial productivity solutions, consulting engineering, tobacco industry and glass manufacture. It gave plenty of opportunities for networking and was very well received as a valuable, stimulating and enjoyable event.

Keynotes from Volkswagen and Politecnico di Milano opened a two-day packed agenda with presentations showing innovative work in reacting, multiphase, environmental and compressible LES flows, acoustic analysis, flow in rotating machinery, CFD in Medicine and external aerodynamics.

Congratulations to Dr. Stefan Blume who won the ICON FOAMpro Design-an-Aircraft competition. Conference delegates were asked to define the optimal parameters for an aircraft with minimal drag using ICON FOAMpro’s built-in GUI. Second and third place winners were Jiri Furst (Czech Technical University in Prague) and Dr. Octavian Frederich (Volkswagen).

The conference proceedings and image gallery are now available to download at opensourceCFD.com/conference2011.

Further innovative work can be found in our Technology Gallery.

ICON would like to thank all delegates, presenters, exhibitors and sponsors for helping to make the conference such a great success. In particular, our thanks go to our principal sponsor Intel and other sponsors BETA CAE Systems, Clustervision, QLogic and SGI, together with exhibitors Fraunhofer SCAI, Distene, Bull and Genias Graphics.

We look forward to seeing you in London in November 2012.

Icon Sales Partnerships Required to Operate in US CFD Market

Windsor, September 2011

ICON is looking for experienced Sales Agents/Partners in the US to help continue it’s growth and build long term business relationships in the CFD market.

ICON seeks collaboration with partners to promote the ICON FOAMpro service throughout continental USA. Ideal partners would include resellers with CFD market experience and established CFD consultants.

About ICON FOAMpro Service

Open source solving and meshing tools offer customers a cost-effective customisable solution to fulfil their CFD Simulation requirements. The limiting factor in adopting open source-based processes in industry is often the lack of technical support, quality assurance and a robust, easy-to-use process from meshing to post-processing.

ICON provides first class CFD tools (including a purpose-built GUI) combined with industrial support embedded in a professional environment to meet these requirements via its service ICON FOAMpro.

ICON FOAMpro is part of the Intel® Cluster Ready Program. For more information please contact us or visit iconCFD.com/foampro.

About ICON

ICON was established as a private limited company in the UK in 1992, originally a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) services provider using emerging proprietary CFD software tools. The evolution of the company continues today with the same philosophy that it was founded upon: to maximise value for customers by providing high-quality independent advice and expertise in CFD methodologies and technologies that have the most impact on product or process design.

ICON reaction to SGI® acquisition of OpenCFD® and SGI® OpenFOAM® fee-based offering*

ICON see the acquisition as another sign to reinforce the widely accepted view that open source CFD technology and related services are now an integral and valuable part of industrial engineering simulation.

It is too early to say how the acquisition of OpenCFD by SGI and the fee-based offering SGI® OpenFOAM® will be perceived by the CFD community. However, ICON will remain completely committed to serving our client’s interests and working closely with hardware, software and channel partners as we have done for the past 20 years.

We continue to welcome collaboration that takes CFD forward with our principal aim to ensure the delivery of high quality CFD process to our rapidly growing client base. We remain a preferred independent CFD solutions provider to industry, developing and supporting CFD process based upon both open and proprietary technologies.
